A house girl has confessed to the court how her employer, accused of attempting to kill his wife, threatened her with dire consequences if she opened her mouth concerning what she saw on the night of the incident.
The house girl said she was going up to check what was happening after she heard the woman calling for help when she met her husband on the stairs. He was in the company of four other people who she could not recognise, on January 12.
Ephantus Kariuki, with the four not before the court, allegedly crept into the bedroom where his wife Jane Njoki Muchoki was deep asleep and attempted to kill her by hitting her on the head.
The attack, court documents show, took place at their house in Ngondu Centre, Ruai. Ephantus was also charged with causing grievous harm to his wife.
At 3 am, the house help heard Njoki groaning in pain. On her way up, she met Ephantus who slapped her and sent her out of the compound. He told her to shut up and leave the city if she wanted to be alive.
The woman was taken to a local hospital before being referred to KNH for specialised treatment. The house help who had disappeared, was traced before she wrote a statement at Kamulu Police Station.
She said she did not get to see her madam again after being ordered to leave the house.
The blood-stained weapon used in the attack was found in the children’s bathroom.
The man was arrested and charged before Makadara senior principal magistrate Justus Kituku, who released him on a bond of Sh 300,000 or cash bail of Sh300,000. The hearing is set for May 30
