Residents of Nakuru are still in shock following reports that body that was lying in mortuary over pending bills cannot be traced.
Reportedly, the body was lying in War Memorial Hospital mortuary which was reportedly broken into on February 20th.
It is suspected that it was during that time that the body was stolen.
According to report by The Standard Newspaper, the body had been lying at the facility since September 2023, owing to a family dispute.
The incident, she said, was reported at Kaptembwo police station pending investigations.
The hospital’s management told the publication that the dispute was in court and on February 15, and the court gave the children of the deceased the right to bury her.
The hospital said that they agreed with the daughter that she could pay part of the mortuary bill and enter into an agreement with the hospital lawyer.
Reportedly, the woman who was being treated at the hospital, died while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit and had accumulated a bill of Sh921,000.
Reportedly, the morgue was broken into and the body was moved to Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital and then to another facility over unclear circumstances.
