In an attempt to up their art of luring customers to buy pesticides some traders in Nairobi are using live cockroaches to demonstrate how their concoctions kill insects instantly.
Such traders have designed glass containers where they lock cockroaches and other insects as they wait for customers.
Some of them operate around National Archives in Nairobi and other areas including River-Road, Machakos Country Bus, Gikomba and Kamukunji grounds.
This has now created a business opportunity for other people who hunt for cockroaches and sell them to the pesticide traders.
The pesticides traders say they buys cockroaches from some people within the city who gather the insects at thier home and take them to auction at the city centre.
“I buy the cockroaches for Sh2 two each after every three weeks,” Anthony Kibe one of the traders revealed.
Kibe revealed that the large roaches sold to him are sourced under the lids of some manholes in the city estates and other dumping sites.
Another trader along River-Road revealed that they buy cockroaches used as samples for Sh5 from some street families who hunt for the insects so as to feed their children from the proceeds.
