Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been missing in action for more than one week now.
The governor’s absence comes at the time when the city has been experiencing high magnitude incidences from the the beginning of February, 2024.
First was Muthurwa fire incident on January 30th, where hundreds of traders lost their goods to an evening inferno that was suspected to have been sparked by electrical fault.
It took an effort of good samaritans and other passersby to put off the fire until the county fire engines arrived to save the situation later.
As usual, politicians visited the area the following day to comfort the trades who lost their wares to the raging fire.
Governor Sakaja was represented by his deputy Njoroge Muchiri, who promised that the county would assist the victims of the fire so that they could continue with their business.
“We are aware that many families are suffering, and the county under the leadership of Governor Sakaja will help those who were affected,” Njoroge noted.
He added, “I was sent by Governor Sakaja that we as the county will assist those affected by the incident so that they can embark on their businesses,” the Deputy Governor added.
Then, on February 2, Nairobi was hit by a gas plant explosion, which shook the city and ended the lives of three residents.
Other 280 people were left with serious injuries in the incident that happened within Miradi area in Embakasi East.
Similarly, Governor Sakaja was represented by his deputy Mjoroge Muchiri, who visited the area in the company of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“As a county government, we assure you that every resource is being mobilized for relief and recovery,” Njoroge pledged.
He added that, “We are working tirelessly to rebuild what has been lost, in collaboration with the relevant authorities and government agencies,”
From the two incidents, some city residents have been inquiring about the whereabouts of the county boss on various platforms, with some claiming he is out of the country.
The sources could be right or wrong, but the governor has not shared about his whereabouts on his social media accounts leave for the usual updates.
