Some children who are born out of wedlock end up on the streets because they are rejected after being introduced to families.

This according to Nairobi MCA who shared his view when the Nairobi County Assembly was debating a motion to evict street persons in Nairobi.

The MCA said some married women are harsh when their husbands arrive home with children sired outside the marriage.

“Many men out there have kids out there but when they want to take them home they are not allowed. That is why they end up on the streets” the MCA told the assembly.

While supporting the proposal, he added, “The is the matter that we must try to dig deeper and come up with solution,”

The motion was passed by members awaiting a nod by the County Executive.

All the members who supported the motion said the number of street children in the city has been growing with some of them said to be migrating from neighbouring Counties.

The assembly was told according to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census Report indicated that Kenya had a total of 46,639 street persons,

Nairobi County was leading with 15,337 persons, Mombasa 7,529, Kisumu 2,746, Uasin Gishu 2,147 and Nakuru 2,005.
