Kenyan gay Binyavanga Wainaina dies at 48

Award winning Kenyan author Binyavanga Wainaina has died.

The LGTB (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) activist who declared that he is gay in 2014 passed on at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on the night of Tuesday, May 22, at around 10pm.

The founder of Nairobi-based journal was not only literature giant but rose to fame when he declared his sexuality.

He was named by the Time 100 among the “Most Influential People in the World” in 2014.

On December 1, 2016 during World Aids Day, Binyavanga came out once again, revealing that he is HIV positive.

The activist was back hit the news again in May 2019 when he revealed he was planning to wed his long time lover from Nigeria.
