A Chinese tourist who was mauled to death by a hippo while touring Naivasha in 2013 will be compensated.
A Nairobi court has directed Naivasha Country Club to pay the family of Luo Yi Sh31.9 million since the deceased was the only child.
The court further stated that the hotel was to blame since the tourist was killed while taking photos of the animal yet there was no warning of the lurking danger.
It was further noted that the hotel ought to have made an effort to prevent the animal’s form encroaching their land by or making visible signs or ensuring that the visitors are accompanied by security guards.
The hotel told the court that Luo Yi and her colleagues other visitors then spotted the hippos grazing around the lawn area and excitedly rushed out to take photos of the calf hippo.
A witness stated “Luo moved too close to the calf hippo and suddenly the mother, charged at and attacked her, and thereby inflicted fatal injuries to the deceased.”
