Kenya Petroleum Oil Workers Union has warned that the country will be hit by fuel shortages if Kenya Pipeline Company will not address their labour grievances.
On Thursday, the Union issued strike notice against Kenya Pipeline giving six-day widow period before resorting to industrial action.
The grievances include unpaid and delayed overtime, standby and meals allowances, discretionary administration of shift allowance, unpaid acting duty allowances and unresolved commuter allowances among other issues.
“The union maintains that employees who sustain Company’s operations are entitled to fair treatment, equitable compensation, transparent employment policies and respect for their rights,” the union leaders stated
“Once we take to the streets, there country will come to standstill and there will be no movement because our industrial action will disrupt any supply of fuels countrywide,” the union added
They appealed to the Kenya Pipeline management to use the remaining period to engage them, warning that if the challenges are not addressed the industrial action could also cripple the economy.
“Industrial action could affect petrol transport, loading and distribution, with consequences for businesses, motorists and wider economy,” the Secretary General state
Warning, “We cannot guarantee the public on quality of Petroleum products in the market upon expiry of the notice period,”
