Daystar University is hunting for a vice chancellor to officially replace Prof Timothy Wachira who was sacked this year following series of students’ strikes.
Prof Wachira was replaced by his deputy Prof James Kombo in an acting capacity.
His term was terminated by the university in June after students protested, accusing him of running down the church-owned institution that had been dogged by controversies since last year.
His Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Academic Affairs Prof Kombo was subsequently made the acting VC.
Now the varsity has advertised for the VC position, with a December 28 deadline. It is unclear if Prof Kombo will be given the priority.
After the student chaos that led to the closure of Daystar and dismissal of Prof Wachira, the university council made reshuffles in July, with DVC (Finance, Administration and Planning) Jomo Gatundu being sent on a one-month leave in October and Prof. Michael Bowen, Director for Research, Publication, Consultancy and Postgraduate Bureau stepped into his shoes.
Prof Wachira was accused of mismanagement and controversies dogging Daystar since 2017.
Prof Bowen’s deputy Dr. Leah Komen was appointed Acting Director for Research, Publication, Consultancy and Postgraduate Bureau.
The University Services Manager Joshua Musyimi was also instructed to proceed on a one-month leave.
