After several weeks of speculation, investigators have now arrested a man believed to have been involved in attacking gospel artiste Rachael Wandeto.
The suspect, Josiah Njeru Njiri was arrested on Wednesday after days of investigations since Wandeto was attacked on May 16, 2026 and succumbed two days later at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
It was alleged that some three people pounced on her with unknown liquid that they splashed on her before then fled leaving her in pain and calling for help.
Wandeto was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital with approximately 75 per cent burn injuries. She succumbed to the injuries on Monday, May 18 while undergoing treatment.
The family now says Njeru is Wandeto’s childhood friend whom they had known for many years.
Police are also pursuing love triangles, financial involvements among others.
In a video that was recorded at the hospital, Wandeto revealed that the people asked her why she had not shared some money with them.
Her death has attracted a lot of attention including claims she was attacked over President Ruto’s tattoo on her body, claims that the family say cannot be confirmed yet.
“A lot have been said in regards to her death, but as family we don’t want to take sides, until the detectives conclude their investigations,” stated Wandeto’s elder sister Susan
“At the moment we cannot say her death was because of her political stand or not, as family we are seeking for justice,” she added
On Wednesday, the family recorded their statements at Nairobi Area after homicide detectives took over the case.
“For now, we want to leave the investigators to do their job, we don’t want to say it was political or anything else until the report comes out,” the deceased’s sister added
