Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has today declared that he should be burried within the 48 hours should he die in state custody.

He has also directed that no state involvement should be allowed during his burial. he made the declaration on Friday, April 10, 2026 during a press briefing.

Tuju revealed he has already given clear instructions to his family. Speaking with raw emotion, the former CS declared himself mentally prepared for the worst, including possible torture.

Speaking emotionally to journalists, Tuju said he has already communicated these wishes clearly to his loved ones.

“I’ve been very cheerful with my people and I’m mentally ready on any of the torture that anyone may want to visit on me. Nobody lives here forever. Raila died and within 72 hours, he was buried,” he remarked.

“(Former Chief of Defence Forces Francis) Ogolla also died and within 48 hours he was buried. I’ve told my people very clearly that when it comes to that, when I die I want to be buried within 48 hours.

I don’t want to see any state to be participating or be involved in my funeral.”He added, point-blank: “I’m ready for my death.”Tuju did not stop there.

Tuju recalled how he survived plane crash and a car accident that left him with several fractures.

“As I told you, I did survive a plane crash,” he said, recounting the 2003 Busia plane crash that happened shortly after he entered politics. “But the other tragedy I had to go through was five years ago when I survived a car crash in which I had 18 fractures.”: “I survived a plane crash and now a car accident… Indeed I have a lot to thank God for.”

He hit back hard at police claims that he staged his own disappearance, insisting he was assaulted the moment he voluntarily presented himself to authorities.“They say I went and hid under my bed, that’s why I’m alive today.

Those who are trailing you, but in this case, I availed myself to the police station and they assaulted me and put me in the cells and then I have been released bond free,” he said.

The fiery remarks come at the height of the ongoing storm surrounding Tuju’s reported abduction, his dramatic reappearance, and his subsequent arrest on accusations of giving false information to police.

Despite the charges, Tuju stands firm on his innocence. He maintains he went into hiding in Kiambu after spotting suspicious individuals tailing him — a move, he says, born of real fear rather than any elaborate hoax.

The former Jubilee Party Secretary General and ex-Cabinet Secretary was released on a personal bond of KSh 100,000 after pleading not guilty at Kibera Law Courts to the charge of giving false information to the police. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 15.
