The Kenya National Highways Authority has ordered traders along Thika Road to move their wares away from the road in seven days.

This is according to a notice published by the Authority on February 9, 2026 citing that this is part of ongoing road safety project.

Traders targeted include those selling their wares near the Super Highway at Roysambu and Githurai.

“This is to Pave way for the construction of designated bus bays, aimed at ensuring safe and orderly passenger pick-up and drop-off as well as reducing traffic congestion along the affected sections,” Kenha stated

Adding, “The project is part of KeNHa’s ongoing road safety improvement initiative that seeks to reduce accidents,”

The clearance, according to the authority, will also ensure unobstructed flow along the highway.

Over the weekend, KeNHA also announced a temporary nighttime closure on a section of Uhuru Highway for maintenance. The closure, running nightly from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am between February 6 and 13, affects the stretch between the University of Nairobi and Westlands roundabouts.

Motorists heading towards Nakuru via Uhuru Highway and Chiromo Road were advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays and ensure safety during the maintenance period.

“All motorists intending to access Uhuru Highway (A8 Road) and Chiromo Road (Nakuru-bound) can use Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, Westlands Ring Road and the Nairobi Expressway,” the authority said.

For Mombasa-bound traffic on Uhuru Highway, KeNHA suggested alternative routes including Parklands Ring Road, Ojijo Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, University Way, and the Nairobi Expressway.
