The recently elected Member of Parliament for Mbeera North, Leo Wamuthende has elicited reactions following his remarks on television.
Speaking on Citizen Tv’s morning show, Wamuthende said teachers and other civil servants should not be complaining of poor pay yet their service is not impressive.
“Even as we talk of those payslips, let the civil servants, the teachers, also give the government value for money,” Wamuthende said
He added that, “so that we don’t just give people salaries and we are not getting the requisite performance in schools or even in government offices,”
According to the MP, sometimes Kenyans check into the government offices but find no one in the office to serve them effectively, thus people end up blaming.
“Like now the transition, from the teacher to the principal to the sub-county directors, we have a whole chain of eight people on payslip being paid by the government so that this challenge is not faced,” explained Wamuthende
“Whatever you are earning from government, what are we getting as citizens so that we don’t have any small problem that comes up,” he added
At the same time, he took a swipe at the opposition accusing them of being too quick to pick it as a governance issue citing that sometimes it has nothing to do with that but people who don’t want to do what they are supposed to do.
