The director of Zion Ahadi Hospital in Kakamega County, has landed in trouble over claims of defrauding Social Health Authority.

Josephat Ouma Omoto, now entangled in a deceit web, was arraigned at the Milimani high court where he was accused of masterminding a sophisticated fraud scheme to siphon Sh2.5 million from the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Omoto however pleaded not guilty to all charges prompting the court to remand him at the custody at Industrial Area Prison pending the ruling on his bail and bond application, set for Monday, January 12, 2026.

Omoto faces charges of obtaining money by false pretenses under Section 313 of the Penal Code, and falsifying health documents in contravention of Section 48(5) of the SHA Act.

He is also accused of acquiring and using proceeds of crime, hence violating the law in regards to the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA)

Omoto purportedly fabricated medical claims and manipulated health documents to unlawfully secure public funds.
Prosecutors claim he obtained the Sh2.5 million through false pretenses, submitting doctored representations to SHA that misrepresented services and entitlements.

During the court appearance, Omoto denied the accusations, in a move that saw the court place him in custody pending bail hearing and determination.

Authorities emphasize their unwavering commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring accountability for those who divert vital resources meant for public welfare.
