For some time now, President Ruto has been saying that it is possible to develop Kenya to be on the same level with Singapore.
This is what Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has taken note of and is now implementing in Nairobi.
For several months Nairobi residents have been witnessing the transformation of the city centre into an amazing art as the beatification process takes shape.
From swanky walkways decorated with underground lights to organised streets some areas in the city centre now resemble some streets in London with amazing garden lights lining up the footpaths.
To some residents this is what they have been yearning for many years, expensive walkways and beautiful city that resonate with a capital city.
“The city centre is glowing at night and the walkways are amazing, to me this is how taxpayer’s money is supposed to be utlised,” Anthony Kimathi one of the residents said
He added, “the county should also consider putting up water taps whre residents can quench their thirst within the city centre at any given time for free and find homes for the street families,”
Some of the areas that have been carpeted include larger Moi Avenue, City Hall Way, Agha-Khan Walk, Tom Mboya and Luthili areas. This has created more spaces for street photographers.
However, some residents observe that governor Sakaja should find a way of getting rid of boda-boda riders in the city centre for the much needed peace.
One of the residents asked governor Sakaja to negotiate with private investors to turn the single level parking lots to 4 or more levels of parking towers, like the cathedral adding that this will really reduce the parking menace.
“Haile selassie area ya wakulima, from the Moi Avenue round about all the way to Kamukunji round about weka cabro,” Andrew Nyamu observed
Bryan Mureithi posed, “have asked you this question your Excellency and I ask again, do you consider the streets such as Racecourse, Kenneth Matiba, Charles Rubia, Landhies Road and areas of Nyamakima, Gikomba and Kariokor part of Nairobi CBD?”
“Do you know those areas are frequented by the majority of Nairobians and other traders and shoppers per day? If you rehabilitate these areas to the level of the photos you have shared, you will truly have transformed Nairobi CBD,” he added
