Police have launched an investigation into the death of a University of Nairobi student whose body was found inside a pool at the main campus in Nairobi.

It is reported that that student, Dennis Kamunya had posted cryptic messages on his social media accounts detailing how he would end his life within the institution without detailing why he had opted for that.

“At the bottom of the pool, down there where the water is silent and deep, I rest where the bubbles and secrets sleep. I dint mean to cause a fuss or offense,” reads one of the messages on his social media accounts.

A communications affairs officer at the University said some of the deceased’s colleagues noticed that he had been missing and noticed that he had posted a message of his status.

“His colleagues noticed around 3pm that he has posted a suicide message forcing them to rush to his room but he was not there after breaking in,” the officer explained.

He added, “In his message he had written that he will be found around a water body at the campus.

It stated that by the time his body was recovered, Kamunya had a bag on his back that contained his laptop and some weighty materials, probably to make his body sink in the pool.

“He was a third year medical student and from his colleagues, he was battling some challenges. It is also believed that he was battling drug abuse,” the officer added

On Tuesday, the homicide police unit visited the institution to begin their investigations so as to rule out other causes of his death.

“The police are still investigating the matter and they have cordoned the area so as to rule out if it not suicide,” the officer added
