Nairobi Members of County Assembly have now appealed to President Ruto to assist the current County Administration to sort the mess and deliver pledges that were made to the city residents.

The MCAs argue that since elections, the current administration under the leadership of Governor Johnson Sakaja has not delivered some crucial promises that were made during the campaign period.

“After the 2022 general elections that is after August the county government promised Nairobi things including good roads, dignified affordable housing, street lighting, improved health care, and all those things put together,” Deputy Minority leader Waithera Chege while addressing the media.

She added that, “However, we and we have not seen any sign whatsoever of implementing all these things that we promised, especially in the governor’s manifesto,”

The Nairobi South Member noted that at the moment the city is choking in garbage, transport is disorganized especially in the city centre and land grabbing is the order of the day.

“If you look at most of the major roads within the city, they are used for trade. However, the owners of some of these shops cannot even trade, because the county government of Nairobi has not been able to implement what they promised as the solution to hawking within the city,” she stated

Waithera appealed, “We are here to ask both His Excellency the President and the Prime Minister, Honorable Raila Odinga, that things are getting out of hand in Nairobi,”

The Ward Reps argue that if there is no solution to the current problems, the taxpayers’ money will always be used and there will never be a solution to these problems.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai of Azimio wing on his part regretted that for a while now, the county revenue collection has been dwindling at an alarming rate yet Nairobi has huge potential.

“Some small counties are collecting more money than Nairobi, the city more potential bigger metropolis and more revenue capacity is collecting because the same revenue is being pilfered at the source by few individuals at the assembly and executive,” Alai stated

Cautioning, “If President Ruto and former President Raila Odinga does not sit and correct things in Nairobi, then things are going worse and President will be constantly blamed for poor governance because he has allowed Nairobi to be run unprofessionally,”
