A man from Kakamega County was forced to cancel a wedding last week after discovering that his girlfriend had received a mobile phone gift from another man.
The man identified as Mayaka is an accountant in Nairobi while his girlfriend was also in the city but they were planning to walk down the aisle in the village.
However, the man claims he found out that she had received an IPhone 13 Pro Max worth Sh90,000 from an unknown male friend but she had not told him.
“The two had been dating for one year and the man had already visited the girlfriend’s parents and paid part of the dowry ahead of the wedding that was slated for December,” the man’s cousin told Nairobi Journal on phone.
“Hell broke loose when the lady refused to reveal who gave her the phone and why she was hiding it,” he added.
At some point it is reported that Mayaka confronted the fiancée about who had given her the expensive gadget, but she insisted on keeping the person’s identity a secret.
For this reason, he ended up calling off their wedding to avoid any unforeseen problems in their relationship, as he was suspicious of her behavior.
“I don’t have anything to say for now, I’m a wounded man having invested in the lady including paying part of her college fees for one,” a disappointed Mayaka told Nairobi Journal before hanging up in huff.
Reportedly, Mayaka’s fiancée was a marketer attached to a wine company along Mombasa road.
Mayaka’s cousin said for now the lady has since moved out to live alone as they now ponder on whether to reconcile or to go to her parent’s for dowry refund.
