Raila Odinga might not win the African Union Commission Chairmanship, a political analyst has predicted.
Raila is set to face three candidates for the seat in February 2025 and the campaigns are gaining momentum.
The candidates are Mahmoud Youssouf from Djibouti, Kumarsigngh Gayan from Mauritius and Richard Randriamandato of Madagascar seeking to replace the current chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad.
But political analyst Anythony Ndegwa says among the candidates, Raila Odinga is the weakest and might not garner the required votes.
First, Ndegwa says at the age of 79, Raila faces tough competition from other candidates who are abit younger than him.
Second, he says the main candidates are from Francophone candidates while Raila is the only one who is from English speaking countries commonly known as Anglophone.
Third, the political expert argues that Kenya has been courting the West nations which does not auger with the Islamic states that are the majority in the race thus they can punish Raila by denying him the votes.
At the moment, Mahmoud Youssouf from Djibouti and Raila are seen to be the main competitors even as the other two continue their campaigns.
The winner is supposed to get the support of 32 countries as the two horses continue solidifying their grounds.
