A woman shocked Kisumu court after confessing that she killed her son aged 3 by throwing her in a flooded quarry.

Margaret Achieng in her twenties confessed that she committed the offence on May, 7, 2023 at Kanyakwar village in Kisumu.

The woman said she decided to sacrifice her child since she was unable to raise him with a meagre salary from an eatery where she was employed.

She told the court that her life changed after she was left by boyfriend in 2021 when she fell pregnant for him.

It was when she landed a hotel job that she decided to take the child to be taken care of by one of her uncles but this arrangement failed after the man returned back the child claiming that he was suffering.

For this reason, she decided to take the child to the new boyfriend’s house where she confessed that she first tried to kill him with paraffin.

She told the court that she had mixed some tea with paraffin and handed it over to the child to drink but the boy refused.

It was then that she decided to strangle the child but she was unsuccessful forcing her to go and throw him in a flooded quarry.

When asked why she could not take the child to the children’s home; the accused confessed she had tried but the child followed her while crying.

The woman confessed that the child’s father was arrested sometime back in connection with defilement.
Her lawyer told the court that the accused’s life became hard when she was dumped by boyfriend while pregnant.

The lawyer told the court that the woman has learned the lesson and regrets the incident since the time she was arrested and has been in custody.

The court however ruled that the suspect will remain in custody until August 7 for further directions.
