A section of Bishops and pastors who supported President William Ruto during the 2022 campaigns now claim the Head of State is no longer giving them ears.

According to Reports by People Daily Newspaper, President Ruto has also failed to honour some agreements which he had promised to fulfill once in the State House.

The men of clergy according to the publication were promised jobs and other key government roles but none has been fulfilled close to two years now.

The religious leaders feeling to have been left in the cold  are under Pentecostal and Evangelical Alliance Churches of Kenya’ (PEACK) umbrella.

They claim among the promises were appointments to some of them to commissions, State corporations, foreign missions, Cabinet and boards and committees of national and county governments.

Among the notable members of PEACK were Evangelical Alliance of Kenya, Deliverance Church of Kenya, and Association of Pentecostal, Evangelical Churches, Faith Evangelistic Team and Redeemed Gospel Church.

The religious leader claimed that there was a written agreement between them and the Head of State detailing the working relationship after elections.

However, chairman of Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Christian Churches of Kenya, Bishop Samuel Njiriri said that he did not know the contents of the MoU, there was an agreement between the two parties.

He told the Newspaper “Though I have not seen the agreement, I am aware that there was an agreement that we signed in Karen,”

The presiding Bishop of Stewards Revival Ministry along Outering Road added that some of the preachers who stood with Ruto during his fallout with Uhuru Kenyatta have been ignored.

The Bishop regretted that Ruto has refused to listen to the church, refused to reduce the cost of living and has instead been supporting the regulation of churches.

He was quoted, “We were at the forefront in campaigning for him to be President. Now that he got what he wanted, he has refused to listen to the church and especially those who stuck their necks out for him,” said Njiriri.

In defense of Ruto, the government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said that the Head of State has not forgotten about the promises he made and he will fulfill them.

“We assure them that we are working hard to fulfill all the issues that we agreed to attain within 5 years. President Ruto is a man of his words,” the spokesperson partly responded to the daily publication.
