Two men of Nigerian nationals have been arraigned before Makadara law courts in connection with murder of Waeni in Roysambu.

William Ovie Opia and Johnbull Asibor were presented on miscellaneous applications for police to seek more time to investigate the case.

They were arrested following the gruesome death of Rita Waeni, whose body was found dismembered and dumped in a dustbin in a private apartment on January 14.

Investigating officer attached to Kasarani police station told the court that the two were arrested and found with suspicious items after the gruesome murder of the university student.

The officer in sworn affidavit told the court that by the time of arrest in Ndenderu, Kiambu, they were in possession of a butcher knife, a hatchet, six mobile phones and several simcards

It is also stated that they were in possession of Kenyan national identity card and three laptops.

“The foreigners were found to be in the country illegally since their passports expired while the other one said his passport got lost one year ago,” the investigating officer stated.

“The first respondent William Ovie Opia, whom the investigations has established had bought a hatchet from online shop, claimed that he bought it for self-defense,” the affidavit stated.

The officer urged the court to allow him to obtain call data records for all simcards and mobile numbers recovered to ascertain whether they were involved in the murder.

He also asked the court to allow more time so that he can accompany the two for DNA tests at the government chemist.

There, he said their samples would be collected and compared with those collected from the scene of murder to see if they match.

At the same time, the investigator told the court that more time will be needed to compile the details in a file that will be forwarded to the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court allowed the investigating officer to detain the two for eight days so as to complete investigations.
