A co-director of a well-known skincare company has been charged with stealing KSh 2.1 million belonging to the firm after an audit and complaints from clients who were directed to pay for services and products into her personal M-Pesa and bank accounts.

Christine Njeri Wanjiru appeared before Principal Magistrate Juliana Ndengeri at Makadara Law Courts on Thursday and was charged with stealing by a director, contrary to Section 282 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, Wanjiru allegedly committed the offence on diverse dates between 15 June and 11 August 2026 at an unknown location within Kenya.

The prosecution states that, while serving as a director of the company, she stole KSh 2.1 million, the property of the company.

Early this year, Wanjiru and her co-director established a new clinic in Nairobi and began operations. It is alleged that she later directed clients seeking services and products to make payments into her personal accounts rather than the company’s official accounts.

Her co-director subsequently noticed that the funds were not appearing in the company’s financial records. An audit was conducted, revealing that the Sh 2.1 million had been diverted into the accused accounts.

Several clients produced records confirming that payments had been made to Wanjiru. The matter was reported to the authorities, leading to her arrest and subsequent investigations.

State counsel Edsan Papai did not oppose the accused’s release on bond or bail but urged the court to set terms commensurate with the significant sum allegedly stolen.

“The alleged amount is significant, and I urge the court to consider the circumstances of the case before releasing her on bail,” he said.

Wanjiru, who pleaded not guilty, was released on a bond of Sh 1 million or a cash bail of the same amount. The case was set to be mentioned for pre-trial on 2 December.
