EACC arrests two suspects for impersonating officers and extortion
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two individuals accused of impersonating Commission officers and extorting money from a member of the public.
The suspects, identified as Annastacia Mueni Kavemba and Stephen Muleu Ngati, were apprehended on March 29, 2026, following a formal complaint lodged with the EACC on the same day.
According to the complaint, Ms. Mueni contacted the victim, falsely identifying herself as an EACC officer.
She claimed that the complainant was under investigation by the Commission and demanded payment to influence the outcome of the alleged probe and halt any further action.
EACC officers swiftly launched an operation in response to the report. The suspects were arrested immediately after they received a bribe of KSh20,000 from the complainant.
The suspects are currently being held at the EACC Headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi, where they are undergoing statement recording and further processing as investigations continue.
In a statement, the EACC urged members of the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes involving impersonation of its officers.
The Commission encouraged anyone encountering suspected bribery, extortion, or similar corrupt practices to report them promptly through official channels.
This incident ongoing efforts by the EACC to combat corruption and protect the public from individuals who exploit the Commission’s name for personal gain.
Impersonation of anti-corruption officers and demands for bribes undermine public trust and the rule of law.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
