Popular Kenyan media personality and radio host Kamene Goro has finally opened up about the terrifying health crisis that almost claimed her life earlier this year.

In a raw and emotional revelation shared on her Instagram, Kamene detailed how a seemingly routine procedure spiraled into a life-or-death battle with sepsis and peritonitis, leaving her organs including her kidneys and lungs, failing and pushing her to the edge of mortality.

The ordeal began after Kamene underwent knee surgery in January 2026 to repair a torn meniscus at Karen Hospital.

What was expected to be a straightforward recovery turned catastrophic when a bacterial infection entered her bloodstream and spread rapidly through her body systems.

“So I had sepsis and peritonitis in my abdomen,” Kamene shared in her Instagram post titled “So this is what’s been up…… Buckle up.” She described how the infection caused severe inflammation of the abdominal lining (peritonitis), leading doctors to drain five litres of pus from her abdomen.

Sepsis, the body’s extreme and life-threatening response to infection, quickly escalated, triggering widespread organ damage.

Kamene vividly recounted the razor-thin “window period” between life and death “The doctors told me that window between life and death for me was 12 hours and four amazing doctors.”

She credited a team of dedicated medical professionals who worked tirelessly to pull her back from the brink. For 45 days, she remained hospitalized, fighting for her life as the infection wreaked havoc on her body. She recounts fighting for her life in ICU and HDU.

The sepsis did not stop at the abdomen. It hit her organs hard. Kamene revealed that the illness caused kidney issues with ongoing battles even after discharge.

“It escalated fast. My kidneys started failing and i was placed on dialysis. I also developed pneumonia from hospital cold exposure, and one lung collapsed.” She revealed.

Sepsis is known to trigger multi-organ failure, shutting down the kidneys’ ability to filter waste and overwhelming the lungs with inflammation and fluid, an exact experience which Kamene endured.

In her podcast interview, she spoke candidly about the fear, the uncertainty that rocked her world, and the profound gratitude that now defines her outlook.

She recalled standing at the hospital window one night, reflecting on how close she had come to leaving everything behind.

Kamene’s story has touched many Kenyans, with fans flooding her comments with prayers and messages of support. She acknowledged her husband, DJ Bonez, and close friends for standing by her throughout the ordeal.

Now on the road to recovery, she is still managing lingering kidney issues but emphasizes how the experience has reshaped her priorities, making her more appreciative of life, health, and the simple things she once took for granted.
