Despite recent reports of students in Eldoret losing millions of shillings in a Canadian job scam, Lydia Murgor says such frauds remain widespread in the town, which was recently elevated to city status.
She attributes the persistence of these scams to the inaction of investigative agencies, who often fail to follow up on reported cases.
“Hardly a day passes by without someone falling victim to fraudsters who promise high-paying jobs abroad,” Murgor wrote.
She added, “I blame the authorities for continuing to issue registration documents to these dubious agencies without properly verifying their legitimacy. Investigative bodies also seem reluctant to pursue these cases.”
It seems Eldoret is fast becoming a scammer’s paradise. Stay alert, folks.
