The Kenya Electricity Generating Company KenGen has announced the appointment of Alfred Agoi Masadia as its new board chairman.
Agoi replaces Julius Ogamba, who held the position for one and a half years before being appointed by President William Ruto as the Cabinet Secretary for Education earlier this year.
The announcement followed the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 28, 2024, where shareholders voted overwhelmingly in favor of Agoi’s appointment.
In a statement, KenGen’s CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga, KenGen said that Agoi would oversee the company’s continued growth and sustainability.
“We are confident that Mr. Agoi will lead the board effectively and support KenGen in its mission to deliver reliable and sustainable energy for Kenya’s future,” said Njenga.
He observed that under Agoi’s leadership, KenGen aims to continue its role as a pioneer in renewable energy and a key player in the global shift towards a greener future.
“Agoi’s wealth of experience in business, public policy, and governance, stating that his leadership would be instrumental in driving the company’s G2G 2024-2034 strategy,” he stated.
President Ruto had on September 5, 2024 appointed Hon Agoi to the board as an Independent and Non-Executive Director to the Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC.
Agoi’s professional background spans over 22 years in strategic management and leadership roles, with notable experience in business and governance.
