Shabana Football club has moved to court and filed an appeal before the sports dispute tribunal(STD) seeking to stop the recent ban by Football Kenya Federation.

This is in relation to the violence and destruction of properties that was witnessed at the Ulinzi Complex stadium, Nairobi last weekend.

The match between the hosts Ulinzi who were at home against Shabana ended in a 2 – 2 draw.

The clubs are represented by city lawyers Danstan Omari,Shadrack Wambui,Sam Nyaberi, and Paul Macharia.

They said at a press conference in Nairobi that the club will lose a huge sum of money per single match that they will play without their fans.

The ban will be on five matches that the team will play at their home ground.

According to Omari, there was no evidence linking Shaban FC fans to the destruction of properties at the Ulinzi stadium.

He added that evidence including CCTV footage has not shown that the fans who destroyed properties at the stadium were from Shabana side. It is also alleged Ulinzi stars fans could have destroyed the properties.

“This direction is too punitive, none of the Shabana fans were invited to tell their story, and there is a plot to kill talent from the Gusii land,”Said Omari.

He went on to add that, “As we speak now hotels are fully booked ahead of the return match in Gusii, mama mbogas, and all those who sell bananas will lose a lot of money if fans are banned, especially for those coming from the city”,.

The lawyers on behalf of the club appealed to President William Ruto, Cabinet secretary for Sports Kipchumba Murkomen and all Gusii leaders to intervene so that they can save the club from a group of people he referred to as cartels.

FKF directed the club to cater for all medical expenses for the officers who were injured during the match at the Ulinzi Complex.
