If you are sports fan, then by now you must have seen Marathon’s World Champion Eliud Kipchoge has been nominated for 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards, the world’s pre-eminent international sports awards.

The awards in different categories are meant to recognize achieving men, women and teams that their performance have put them on the world map.

Kipchoge finds himself a lonely Africa athlete among the high profile counterparts selected across the globe.

What has shocked Athletic fans and Kenyans is how and why the organizers chose a photo in which Kipchoge was crossing the finish line with visible white mucus on his nose.

Even though Kipchoge took to social media to say he was honoured to be listed among ‘great athletes who all had such incredible performances’, a section of Kenyans think the photo was meant to tarnish his reputation.

In the Laurues Sportsman of the Year Category Kipchoge has been nominated alongside Novak Djokovic (Serbia) Tennis, Lewis Hamilton (UK) Motor Racing, LeBron James (USA) Basketball, Kylian Mbappé (France) Football and Luka Modric (Croatia) Football
