Flamboyant City tycoon Jared Otieno has landed in trouble over claims that he stole gold worth Sh54, 294, 457 in Nairobi belonging Korean.
According to police details, Otieno committed the offense on diverse dates between March 30 and April 4 this year.
The businessman was accused of stealing gold weighing 6.483 kilograms belonging to the Korean tycoon, Shanmugam Sundar Darmaraju.
In the second count of stealing goods in transit, Otieno was said that on the 4th day of April 2023 at JKIA jointly with others not before the court stole 6.483 kilograms of gold valued at USD 408,229.
The gold bars belonged to Shanmugam Sundar Darmaraju and were in transit from Liberia to Dubai.
Otieno was arrested on April 13 and on May 10 he was taken to JKIA Law Courts.
He denied that charges and was released on a Sh30 million bond or Cash bail of Sh10 million.
On June 20, 2017, police arrested him over claims he swindled foreigners in a gold export deal by pretending to be in a position to export gold from Kenya to foreign countries.
He also famously splashed Sh. 47 million to customize his 2018 Bentley Continental GT. A vehicle order agreement dated June 18, 2018, between the Bentley sales consultant Dimitris Karakloulas and Otieno, shows he paid Sh. 9.6 million as an advance deposit.
